JDF to host National Poppy Appeal Festival in remembrance of Veterans

Just ahead of Poppy Day the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) will be hosting a National Poppy Appeal Festival in remembrance and support of soldiers who served and made the ultimate sacrifice during World Wars I & II

The event scheduled for this Sunday, October 6 at the Little Theatre will feature renowned Keyboardist/ Pianist Audale Martin. tickets for the event can be purchased at the Police Officers Club, Up Park Camp, The Little Theatre & Curphey Place.

Annually, Jamaica honours the memory of fallen servicemen and servicewomen of World Wars I and II on Remembrance Day. Traditionally, Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day or Poppy Day is observed on the second Sunday in November. Its primary purpose is to pay homage to those who gave their service and, ultimately, their lives in the two major wars.

Over 5,000 Jamaicans were involved in the world wars, some of whom served in the Royal Air Force, while others joined the ground forces of the British Army and the Canadian Armed Forces.
