Governing JLP describes PNP as being desperate and power hungry

The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has described the opposition People’s National Party as desperate and power-hungry, following the failed attempt to table a no confidence motion against the Prime Minister in Parliament yesterday.

The motion was blocked by Deputy House Speaker Heroy Clarke, who pointed out that the matter involving Mr. Andrew Holness and the Integrity Commission’s report on his statutory declarations cannot be discussed in Parliament because it is before the court.

This led to a walkout by the Opposition members.

Reacting to the situation, JLP Member of Parliament for South East Clarendon Pearnel Charles Junior said the actions of Opposition Leader Mark Golding were an abuse of process.

Mr. Charles Junior stressed that the rules regarding what is expected of the legislature ensure that there is no interference with the judiciary.

He chastised the Opposition for what he called a staged attempt to disparage the Prime Minister.
