Former national & Reno FC midfielder Boysie Nicholson is dead
The football fraternity is now in mourning over the death of former national midfielder Boysie Nicholson.
Nicholson, who had been battling Parkinson’s Disease for several years, passed away this morning at his home in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
As a player he was renowned for his robust style in midfield and was a stalwart for western kingpins Reno FC where he played an instrumental in them winning three National Premier League titles during the 1990’s.
After his playing career had ended, he also had a stint as coach of Reno and also at the schoolboy level where he guided Frome Technical to consecutive ISSA DaCosta Cup finals in 2003 and 2004 – winning the title in 2003 before going on to share the Olivier Shield with Excelsior that same year.
In a release, JFF President Michael Ricketts described Nicholson as a tower of strength in midfield.
“Boysie had a strong personality which worked well both for club and country. He was a tower of strength in midfield. He has been ailing for some years, and the Father has called him home. We hope he will find eternal rest. Sincere condolences to his family and friends and the Reno FC fraternity.”
Before his passing Nicholson was among a select group of past players and football administrators, along with former FIFA Referee Dwight Royal, who received aid in December 2022 from the JFF through its outreach progamme in partnership with IRIE FM and Jamballers.
