Piped water supply to be restored to Mandeville Regional Hospital today

Piped water supply is expected to be restored to the Mandeville Regional Hospital in Manchester today.

The update was given by Energy Minister Daryl Vaz.

It followed reports that the hospital had scaled down to emergency cases only, due to insufficient water.

The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Alwyn Miller said water supply was disrupted during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

He pointed out that the hospital is served by the Pepper Well in neighbouring St. Elizabeth and that electricity had not been restored at the facility.

The hospital has been getting trucked water in the interim.

Mr. Vaz stated last evening that power was restored to the Pepper Well.

As a result,  the hospital and other areas served by the well should get piped water today.
