NWA & stakeholders working to restore access to Southwest St. Elizabeth communities impacted by blocked roads
Efforts are underway to restore access to multiple communities in Southwest St. Elizabeth, where over a dozen key roadways are blocked by fallen trees and other debris due to Hurricane Beryl’s passage.
The update comes as Member of Parliament Floyd Green notes that the constituency has seen extensive damage to schools, churches, homes and businesses.
Treasure Beach, Barbary Hall, Vineyards and Shrewsbury are among the areas impacted.
Assessments are still underway to determine the full extent of the damage, but Mr. Green says all indications seen so far this morning point to it being extensive.
Mr. Green said a clean-up exercise has gotten underway, with efforts focused on restoring access to the hospital.
Private contractors are helping in the efforts.
The team is also trying to clear paths for Jamaica Public Service (JPS) technicians to access downed poles and damaged wires in a bid to restore electricity.
