Jamaica has seen alarming increase in cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure, businesses, and individuals – PM Holness
Prime Minister Andrew Holness said Jamaica has seen an alarming increase in cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure, businesses, and individuals.
The statement follows a recent National Security Council meeting during which stakeholders discussed legislative gaps relating to cybercrime and the misuse of social media platforms.
The Prime Minister said the misuse of online platforms has created new threats and challenges to the safety and security of citizens and the State.
Mr. Holness said the Security Council has determined that new legislation is needed to tackle cyber threats.
The Government previously indicated that a public education campaign will be done soon to inform people of the dangers of social media and provide guidance on how they can use technology for their personal benefit and national development.
