Spotify faces lawsuit
Spotify is being sued because some people think it’s not paying songwriters and music creators enough money.
A group called the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) filed the lawsuit.
They say Spotify changed how they classify certain subscription plans, which means they now pay less money to songwriters and creators.
Recently, Spotify added audiobooks to their Premium plans and called them “bundled services.” Because of this, they pay less in royalties.
However, according to the MLC Premium subscribers already had audiobooks, so nothing really changed.
Meanwhile, Spotify claims that they are looking forward to a swift resolution of the matter.
Last year, Spotify reported paying $9 billion to musicians and publishers, with half going to independent artists.
