Opposition concerned about decline in tourism arrivals in April

Opposition Spokesperson on Tourism, Senator Janice Allen has expressed concern about a reported decline in Jamaica’s tourism arrivals last month.

This, as she said the island’s two major airports saw a fall off in arrivals in April.

Senator Allen has attributed this decline to the level 3 US Travel Advisory that is in place for Jamaica.

Ms. Allen said several airlines have pulled flights to the island, due to the travel advisory.

Despite the reported fall off in arrivals to Jamaica in April, the tourism ministry says the country welcomed 1,016,180 stopover arrivals, up to May 7.

That’s an overall increase of 4.6% in stopover arrivals compared to the similar period in 2023.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has also indicated that the island remains on track to welcome 5 million visitors and earn US$5 billion by 2025.
