Sunshine Girl Romelda Aiken-George had another good offensive performance for the Adelaide Thunderbirds who posted a one-sided 59-37 triumph over debutantes Melbourne Mavericks to record their third consecutive win in the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia.

Aiken-George, who joined during the off-season, led the way with a game-high 32 goals from 34 shots to go along with 4 offensive rebounds and a goal assist.

She was aided on the defensive end by reigning MVP Shamera Sterling-Humphrey who after a slow start to the game tallied 8 gains and 3 intercepts and compatriot Latanya Wilson who finished with 2 intercepts and 6 gains.

For the Mavericks, Shimona Nelson-Jok was the top scorer with a team-high 14 goals from 17 attempts, while making one of 2 supershots.

With the result the Thunderbirds improved to 16 points but remain third on goal difference behind the Melbourne Vixens who have a game in hand.

Defender Jodi-Ann Ward, meanwhile, was a bundle of energy working overtime in defense where she compiled 5 gains and 3 rebounds while Jo Harten went 29/30 as Giants Netball beat Sunshine Coast Lightning 86-80 in extra time at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney to register their first win this season.

The match was decided during the extra period, but there was a delay in play and confusion after a scoreboard error in stadium had the final score in Lightning’s favour (71-70). After a review, players were called to return to the court.

The win marks a significant turning point for the GIANTS, who have been relentless in their pursuit of victory after enduring a challenging start to the season while the visitors sat at 1-3 entering tonight’s match-up. 

The red-hot West Coast Fever, spearheaded by Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, Shanice Beckford and Kadie-Ann Dehaney, lead the table with maximum 20 points from 5 games.
