Authorities investigating operation of another private institution in Jamaica, which caters to American children with behavioral issues
The Ministry of Education and Youth is investigating the operation of another private institution on the island, which caters to predominantly American children with behavioral issues.
Portfolio minister Fayval Williams, made the revelation while responding to reporters at a post-cabinet press briefing this morning.
Last month, it was revealed that seven American boys attending the Atlantis Leadership Academy in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, were placed in state care following abuse allegations.
Police launched an investigation into the operations of the facility, and 5 people were later charged.
Speaking at today’s briefing, Mrs.Williams said a similar institution, which has been registered with the ministry, is also being probed.
Meantime, she said children who were at the Atlantis Leadership Academy have returned to the United States.
She said the investigation into the matter continues.
