Heads of Government of seven Caribbean nations, eight international partner countries and personnel from the United Nations are to meet in Kingston, Jamaica, today.

They are to discuss the state of affairs in Haiti and other matters critical to the stabilization of security in the nation.

The meeting is being convened by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and follows engagements which have been underway with Haitian stakeholders.

CARICOM Chair Dr. Irfaan Ali, who announced the meeting on Friday, noted that CARICOM remains in deep discussions with various stakeholders in Haiti and Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

He said CARICOM had written to the Heads of State of key countries with which Haiti has engaged as partners, inviting them to meet with CARICOM Heads.

Among the countries expected to be represented at the meeting are the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Meantime, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness has indicated that the meeting under Dr Ali, will seek to advance discussions on support for Haiti.

Mr Holness asserted Jamaica’s urgent and deepening concern about the daily deterioration in Haiti’s security circumstances and its implications not only for the people of Haiti but for the region as a whole.
