Member of Vybz Kartel’s legal team pleased that Privy Council appeal judgement will be handed down next Thursday
A member of the legal team representing entertainer Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer and his three co-accused says he is pleased that the judgement for the appeal to the United Kingdom Privy Council will be handed down next Thursday, March 14.
Attorney Bert Samuels told IRIE FM news this morning that the announcement of the early judgement delivery by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council is a pleasant surprise.
Mr. Samuels who represents one of the men convicted of the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams in 2014, said the men are hoping that the ruling will be in their favour and they will get a full acquittal.
After efforts to overturn their convictions in 2018 were dismissed by Jamaica’s Court of Appeal, lawyers representing Kartel, Jones, Shawn Campbell, and Andre St. John brought the matter to the Privy Council.
Last month, the Privy Council heard submissions challenging whether the trial judge should have excluded the telecommunications evidence relied on by the prosecution, among other things.
The Privy Council judges – Law Lords, Reed, Lloyd-Jones, Briggs, Burrows and Lady Simler – considered the submissions and will hand down their ruling next Thursday.
