People’s National Party confident it will retain Kintyre Division, following reports that JLP will be seeking magisterial recount

The People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed confidence that it will continue to hold control over the Kintyre Division in St Andrew East Rural.

This amid reports that the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) had signalled its intention to file a magisterial recount for the division, following the final counting of ballots in Monday’s Local Government polls.

After the final count, the PNP’s Vivienne Brown-Bond won the division with 1, 319 votes over the losing candidate, the JLP’s Kelvin Clarke who got 1,287 votes.

Speaking with IRIE FM news, Opposition Senator, Sophia Fraser Binns, who also serves on Mrs. Brown-Bonds’ legal team, said with the current 32 vote difference, the PNP remains confident that the division will remain with the party.

If the magisterial recount should result in a victory for the JLP, the current 20-20 tie in the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation will be broken.
