Political parties and police confirm nomination day was mostly incident free
The People’s National Party (PNP) is reporting that aside from a minor incident in St. Mary, today’s nomination day went well.
PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell said the incident occurred in Gayle.
The party’s candidate was allegedly blocked from reaching the nomination centre this morning, but the matter was addressed.
Dr. Campbell said the party will next prepare for the debates and road tour.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Dr. Horace Chang has expressed satisfaction that today’s nomination day was mostly incident free.
Dr. Chang said all candidates for the JLP were nominated.
He said the JLP will ramp up campaigning over the next few days leading up to the election.
And Deputy Commissioner of Police, Clifford Blake said all reports indicate that today’s nomination day proceedings across the island were peaceful.
He commended candidates and their supporters for conducting themselves well, while expressing hope that come February 26, the day of the local government election, they will behave in a similar manner.
