The Opposition People’s National Party has accused the ruling Jamaica Labour Party of delaying the commencement of projects so they can be presented as “goodies” ahead of the elections.

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes made the accusation, noting several recent groundbreaking ceremonies across the island.

The most recent signalled the start of the redevelopment project at the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine.

The commencement spurred criticism from Dr. Dawes, as he claimed it would have been prudent for the Government to build a trauma centre at the Spanish Town hospital and use the remaining funds to build a well-needed hospital in Portmore.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness indicated that a type V (5) health center is to be built in Portmore.

However, Dr. Dawes has warned Jamaicans not to be fooled by the number of projects that have begun, as this could well be a strategy to win political points.
