West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews  has been named the ICC Women’s T/20 International cricketer of the year for 2023

Matthews’ batting in 2023 was a testament to her technical prowess and mental strength, she accumulated a historical 700 runs at a strike rate of 132.32, the first time a women’s player had reached this figure in a single calendar year. 

The highlight innings of the year was the 132 runs she scored in the historical 213 run-chase against Australia in the second T/20 International at the North Sydney Oval, which she followed up with a 99 not out in the first match.

In the third T/20 International, she struck 79 to accumulate 310 runs in the series.
