At least three public hospitals in the Southeast Health Region are experiencing a shortage of nurses. 

This as several nurses reportedly staged a sickout. 

Speaking with Irie FM News, Regional Director for the Southeast Regional Health Authority, Errol Greene said the Spanish Town, Kingston Public and the Victoria Jubilee Hospitals saw a decline in the number of nurses who showed up for work. 

Mr. Greene noted that the Authority has implemented contingency measures to cushion the shortage of nurses. 

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Percy Junior Hospital in Spalding, Manchester, Carlton Nichols, indicated that the facility was also impacted by the sick out being staged by some nurses.

Mr. Nichols said the sickout led to the postponement of elective surgeries at the hospital. 

He expressed hope that the sickout is not prolonged. 

And, the CEO of the Mandeville Regional Hospital, Alwyn Miller reported that 10 nurses called in sick for the morning shift at that institution. 

Up to news time, assessments were being conducted to determine the impact on the afternoon shift.
