Members of Parliament have been warned to adhere to the standing orders, and be in their assigned seats for house meetings, otherwise they will be marked absent.

House Speaker Juliet Holness issued the warning at the end of yesterday’s (November 29) sitting of the Lower House.

Mrs. Holness also pointed out that a member, who is not in their assigned seat, is not qualified to vote on matters before the house.  

She said one particular member, who was not named, has been absent for 80 per cent of the house meetings, often without an excuse.

The Speaker said her ability to exercise leniency, is challenged if no valid excuse is offered.

The Speaker warned that any member who does not comply with the attendance standing orders will be held liable.
