Poor garbage collection forces citizens to dispose of garbage in ways that are harmful to the environment – MP Robinson
The inability of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) to collect garbage in a timely manner is forcing residents to dispose of garbage in ways that are harmful to the environment.
This, according to Member of Parliament for Southeast St. Andrew, Julian Robinson.
Speaking during his contribution to the state of the constituency debate yesterday, Mr. Robinson said it is unacceptable that residents in his constituency have to wait three to four weeks to have their garbage collected.
Mr. Robinson noted that people have been resorting to burning garbage or throwing it in the gullies.
He recommended that the country embarks on an aggressive campaign around composting garbage, to reduce the waste being put out for collection by the NSWMA.
