JTA to announce action plan in response to massive pay increase for parliamentarians
President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) Lasonja Harrison says an action plan is to be announced in response to the massive pay increase to the political directorate.
The increases were announced by Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke in parliament last week.
The adjustments have been met with public backlash, with citizens citing the ongoing salary issues facing members of the public sector.
Speaking on IRIE FM’s Africa Forum this morning (May 21), President Harrison said a meeting took place recently and a response to the increase is to be announced soon.
She said teachers are hurt and will not roll over.
She argued that the massive increase was shocking, as the teachers were given a myriad of reasons why they could not get a better increase.
