Reggae Boys captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake continues to be the highest paid Caribbean MLS player with a base salary of 775 thousand dollars and a total compensation of 894 thousand 375 dollars.
This while Chicago Fire midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri remains as major league soccer’s highest-paid player this year, with the league’s average salary climbing by 3.1% to $473,292, according to figures released today by the MLS players association.

Blake sits at the top of the pay list for Jamaicans ahead of core Burke of the New York red bulls at 500 thousand dollars and guaranteed 571 thousand 871 dollars….Kemar Lawrence also has a base salary of 500 thousand dollars, with Damion Lowe of the Philadelphia union 250 thousand dollars, with the experience Alvas Powell of FC Cincinnati at 190 thousand dollars.
In all, league payrolls totaled just under $460 million, up 17% from $394 million at the start of last season.
There are 112 players at $1 million or more in total compensation, up from 93 at the start of last season, and 290 at $500,000 or higher, up from 242.
