Calypso welcomes removal of illegal raft captains from White River, Ocho Rios
The operator of Calypso Rafting and Tubing in White River, St. Ann has welcomed efforts by the authorities to address the problem of illegal rafters.
Robert Marsh has long argued that the illegal activity is hurting the tourism product.
He has been calling for the matter to be fixed for several years.
In recent months, the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) and the St. Ann police have stepped up measures to rid the area of illegal raft captains.
Mr. Marsh said he is happy that after 6 years the relevant authorities have finally taken action.
He pointed out that lawlessness and tourism cannot co-exist.
He expressed hope that there will be follow up operations and monitoring, to maintain order at the popular attraction.
