WI women has mathematical chance of advancing to the semi-final of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Following a dramatic three runs win over Pakistan the West Indies women now have a mathematical chance of advancing to the semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.
This after the Caribbean ladies pulled off a dramatic three-run win over Pakistan in Paarl yesterday.
Winning the toss and batting first the Windies led by Rashada Williams who whipped up 30 runs from 34 balls and captain Haley Matthews who scored 20 from 21 deliveries, posted 116 for 6 with Nida Dar grabbing 2 for 13 for Pakistan.
Set 117 to win Pakistan got off to a slow start……..losing both openers with just 15 runs on the board, but later recovered when Alyia Raz hit four boundaries during a cameo of 29 runs.
However, the sub-continent team needing an unlikely 18 runs to win from a dramatic final over, could only manage 14 to fall agonizingly short, with Shamilia Connel grabbing the crucial wicket of Riaz , as Hayley Matthews finished with 2 for 14.
The Windies women with the result moved up to third and level on 4 points with second-placed India, meaning they still have a mathematical chance of reaching the semi-finals.
However, their inferior net run-rate means they need India to lose heavily against Ireland today in order to advance.
Defeat for India also means Pakistan are in with a chance of reaching the last four if they beat England tomorrow.
