Independent Review Panel outlines 34 point recommendation for West Indies Cricket

Several embarrassing factors that led to the West Indies crashing out at the first round of the ICC T/20 World Cup last year , and a set of solutions to fix the team’s current crisis, were all outlined in a strident 34 point recommendation submitted to Cricket West Indies by an Independent review panel .

The recommendations arising from the comprehensive review of the west indies failure at the World Cup last year, was compiled by a panel led by Justice Patrick Thompson, along with West indies legend Brian Lara and South African International cricket coach Mickey Arthur.

The report established that the squad had little experience of topflight cricket in Australia. They were under-prepared in view of the short time between the end of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the start of the World Cup, and the CPL conditions bore little meaningful similarity to the conditions in Australia.

In addition it stated that two crucial factors which led to the team under-performing was, ……(1)……..  the absence of a camp in Australia, and (2)…….Shimron Hetmyer being missing in the batting department .

The third point cited in the report was that the management of talent is crucial, otherwise, west indies  cricket runs the risk of being stripped by other professional leagues that can afford to harvest and develop regional players for their benefit.

The independent group’s report has been sent to Cricket West Indies’ Board of Directors, who will overtime implement the 34 recommendations.

In addition the report, says it is imperative that the board and the players have a frank and honest discussion with each other in order to arrive at a solution to the current  impasse.

The report also highlighted that there is significant distrust between the players and administration and this distrust is inimical in ensuring that the best 11 players turn out for the West Indies team in every match.
