PNP intensifies call for resignation of Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton with protest at Spanish Town hospital
The People’s National Party (PNP) has intensified its call for the resignation of Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, with a protest at the Spanish Town Hospital, in St Catherine, this morning (October 31).
Spanish Town Mayor, Norman Scott, PNP General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell, and several Councillors and Caretakers were among the group, who were clad in black at the hospital’s entrance.
They say they were mourning the deaths of several babies at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital due to a resistant bacteria, between July and October, this year.
News of the incident broke last week, resulting in many citizens, including the Opposition, questioning the transparency of the Health and Wellness Ministry.
Mayor Scott told IRIE FM news that it would have been wise if Dr. Tufton had informed the public of the situation as it occurred.
The Mayor noted that the information would have allowed Jamaicans to make the necessary decisions to save the lives of their offspring.
Meantime, Dr. Campbell said there should be no debate on whether or not, Dr. Tufton needs to be sacked.
Cabinet is expected to discuss the deaths of the newborns today.
