The Ocho Rios ministers fraternal is calling for dialogue with the Urban Development Corporation, UDC, to determine actions to be taken to facilitate the re–opening of the section of the Belmont property popularly called Little Dunn’s River .

The UDC advised in September that it was restricting access to the property, as it supported the police’s efforts to manage public safety. This followed a killing at a section of the property in late August. Police had expressed fear of reprisal and wanted persons to stay away.

The UDC in its statement at the time, said the Belmont Cove property which it owns is not licensed as a public beach.

However, over the years, persons from across the island have gone to Little Dunn’s River – mainly because there is no fee for entry.

Chairman of the Ocho Rios ministers fraternal, Hudston Taylor was part of a small protest at the facility on Monday morning.

He notes that the murder which occurred had nothing to do with Little Dunn’s River. He adds that if a crime had been committed at other attractions, those facilities would not have been closed for so long.

Pastor Taylor says he sent a letter the UDC and is yet to get a response.

Chairman of the Ocho Rios Ministers Fraternal, Hudston Taylor meanwhile a vendor who plies his trade at the attraction says the closure has affected his livelihood.
