The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM, says 85 people have been fatally shot by members of the security forces since the start of the year.

10 of them were killed this month.

The latest incident occurred yesterday, in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, in which 23-year-old Mark Lewis was fatally shot.

Reports are that during a joint police/military operation on Burke Road, officers allegedly entered Lewis’ house.

It’s further alleged that Lewis pointed a firearm in the direction of the police.

An officer then opened fire at Lewis, hitting him. 

Lewis died at hospital.

INDECOM said its agents examined the scene and recovered evidential material.
