Five people are dead after a crash on the Bluefields Main Road in Westmoreland on Monday afternoon.

Irie Fm news understands that the crash involved a truck and a Toyota Noah which was operating as a public passenger vehicle.

The deceased are Oneil Allen, Angela Samuel, Janet Thompson, 39-year- old Petrina Wallace and 15-year-old Lavecia Forrester all from Westmoreland.

Reports are that about 3:30 p.m., the five persons were travelling in the Toyota Noah when the vehicle collided into a white truck travelling in the opposite direction.

The five injured persons were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the Noah reportedly fled the scene.

A video which is circulating on social media shows some of the passengers who appear to be unconscious on the ground.

The mangled vehicle is seen in a highly vegetated area with some of the passengers still aboard, as residents try to assist.
