48-hour curfews imposed in sections of Lucea and Green Island in Hanover; Dunkirk in Kingston East
Sections of Hanover and Kingston remain under a two-day curfew.
The curfews were effected at 6 o’clock last evening.
The one in Hanover affects sections of Lucea and Green Island.
In Lucea, the boundaries cover the Johnson Town community, the seaside, the Elgin Town Sports Complex, the Kew District and the Brissett community.
In Green Island, the boundaries cover the Orange Bay Square, the small bridge beside Lobster Smokehouse, March Town Square and Dam Road District.
The curfew follows yesterday’s commitment by Head of the Hanover Police, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Andrew Nish that his officers will not relent in their efforts to deal with the crime challenges in the parish.
In an update to Prime Minister Andrew Holness, DSP Nish reported an 11 per cent reduction in the murder rate in Lucea since the start of the year but noted that more work needs to be done.
Meanwhile, in Kingston East, the curfew affects sections of Brown’s Town (Dunkirk).
It covers Cumberland Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Upper Elletson Road, North Avenue, West Avenue, and Windward Road.
Curfews in both parishes will remain in effect until 6 PM tomorrow.
All persons are required to remain within their premises, unless otherwise authorized.
