$44 M to replace vehicles damaged in flooding at Ruthven Towers

The National Housing Trust NHT says the cost for replacing vehicles damaged during flooding at Ruthven Towers in New Kingston last November is about $44 million.

The figure was disclosed by NHT managing director, Martin Miller, at Wednesday‘s meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of parliament.

14 vehicle owners were affected by the flooding of the basement parking area. So far the NHT has had eleven vehicles replaced.

The issue was raised by opposition spokesman on finance Julian Robinson who sought an update on Ruthven Towers.

Mr Robinson also asked what is being done to prevent a recurrence of that level of flooding.

Mr Miller said the entrance is being re-designed, adding that construction of a wall will commence soon.

The opposition also questioned if liability had been assigned in relation to the flooding at the recently constructed apartment complex.

He said other issues raised by residents have been settled.
