A four-year-old girl was killed in a motor vehicle crash along the Hopewell main road in Westmoreland yesterday.

Her identity has not yet been released.

Reports are that at about 1 P.M., a motorcycle with two pillion riders aboard was travelling along the roadway when the driver allegedly failed to keep left.

The bike crashed into a Toyota Axio motorcar being driven in the opposite direction.

The dead child was one of the two pillion riders.

The bike driver and the other pillion rider are being treated at hospital.

Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones said the girl’s death has pushed the tally of child fatalities so far this year to 21.

Dr. Jones said six of them died in motorcycle crashes.

Dr. Jones is imploring people who transport children to be extra cautious and ensure their safety.
