3 dead after being hit by motor vehicles in separate incidents

Three people died as a result of  injuries they sustained after being hit by motor vehicles in separate incidents yesterday and this morning.

Dead are 51 year old Mark Garrick of 16 Rudolph Avenue, Kingston 20, 52 year old Ida Henry of Golden Spring Kingston 9, and 29 year old Samantha Campbell of Campbell’s Lane, Mount Salem, St. James.

The incidents occurred in St. James, Kingston and St. Andrew.

Garrick was killed in the latest incident in Kingston this morning.

Reports are that at about 3:45 a.m. Garrick and another man were assisting occupants of a motor car, which overturned along the Washington Boulevard, when they were hit by another motor vehicle.

Both men received injuries and were taken to hospital where Garrick was pronounced dead.

In the other incident, Henry was crushed to death, during a 2 vehicle collision on East Queen Street in Kingston, yesterday.

Reports are that at about 10:50 a-m, Henry was standing along the roadway when two vehicles collided.

She was struck by one of the vehicles and was crushed.

The occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Campbell was killed in a hit and run incident along Howard Cooke Boulevard in St. James at about 3:55 a-m yesterday.

Residents discovered her body along the roadway and summoned the police.

Death was confirmed at hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.

The latest incidents push the number of people killed on the nation’s roads since the start of the year to 274.
