“Western schools damaged by Hurricane Melissa will receive the repairs they need”, Education Minister grateful to participants of Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run/Walk

Education Minister, Dr Dana Morris Dixon, says that, with Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run/Walk surpassing its $150 million target, western schools damaged by Hurricane Melissa will receive the repairs they need.

The event, held yesterday, raised $152 million, up from $128 million last year.

30, 939 people participated in the event in support of five western schools: Hopewell High in Hanover, Green Pond High in St. James, Little London High in Westmoreland, Salt Marsh Primary and Infant in Trelawny and Mayfield Primary and Infant in St. Elizabeth.

Funds raised will support critical repairs to infrastructure, including roofs, classrooms, sanitation facilities, electrical systems, windows, doors, and water storage.

Speaking to IRIE FM News at the event, Dr. Morris Dixon expressed gratitude to those who participated, noting that the nation’s children deserve to learn in safe and functional environments.
