Police seized four firearms and several rounds of ammunition during separate operations in St. Mary, St. Elizabeth and St. Catherine, at the weekend.

The latest seizure took place in Highgate, St. Mary, this morning.

A firearm and one round of ammunition were seized.

Reports are that at about 2:35 A.M., a police team on operation conducted a search near a bar.

During the search a silver and green homemade handgun and the ammunition, were found behind a light post.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

And over in Santa Cruz St. Elizabeth, officers seized a Taurus pistol, a Troy Carbine Rifle and 140 assorted rounds of ammunition during a pre-dawn operation, yesterday.

Two people were arrested.

Commanding Officer Superintendent Coleridge Minto, said five premises were targeted during the operation, resulting in the detention of five people.

Superintendent Minto also commended the police team for carrying out the operation incident-free.
