Gov’t assesses over 1,200 businesses since passage of Hurricane Melissa

The Government has assessed 1,293 businesses across the island since the passage of Hurricane Melissa, with the aim of rendering assistance.

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Senator Aubyn Hill gave the update in the upper house this afternoon.

Primary focus is being placed on micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSME), impacted by the category 5 storm.

Senator Hill said the assessments were done between November 10 and December 1.

He said businesses were assessed in the hardest hit parishes, namely Trelawny, Hanover, St James, Westmoreland and St Elizabeth.

Senator Hill added that in Accompong, St. Elizabeth, the ministry assessed 25 businesses.

He said generators are to be distributed in the community.
