Police have identified the man who drowned after he reportedly jumped from a moving police service vehicle, into the Rio Cobre, while crossing the Flat Bridge in St Catherine yesterday.

Dead is 73-year-old Melton Smith a farmer of Mickelton Meadows in Linstead.

Police said smith was a suspect in an alleged case of abduction and carnal abuse.

Its reported that Smith was being transported from Linstead to Spanish Town when, upon reaching the vicinity of the flat bridge, he reportedly jumped from the service vehicle and fell into the Rio Cobre.
