WPM Waste Management Limited outlines plans to address back-log in garbage collection in St. James

WPM Waste Management Limited has set out a number of options to be pursued to address the back-log in garbage collection in St. James.

The agency has indicated that it is three weeks behind in collecting waste across the parish.

Fifty-seven districts are in back-log.

Today’s meeting of the St. James Municipal Corporation was told that a minimum of 15 trucks  are required to remove garbage from St. James.

However, only 9 government units are in operation.

Four others are down due to mechanical problems.

The service is being supplemented by three trucks from the private owners.

Community Relations Manager, Sharon Williams, said several challenges hampered the agency’s operations.

Meantime, Regional Operations Manager at WPM Waste Management, Edward Muir, said a third shift has been implemented to ease the pile up of garbage.

He added that attempts are being made to get the garbage trucks with mechanical problems back in operation and also to improve conditions at the retirement disposal site.
