A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with lawmen on Bobby Lane, in Spanish Town, St. Catherine last evening.
He is 48 year old Vernon Campbell of the community.
Police say a 9mm Ruger pistol, along with a magazine containing seven 9mm cartridges were allegedly seized from Campbell.
The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM has launched an investigation into the incident.
In the meantime, Head of the St Catherine North Police, Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, is urging residents not to block the roads in protest over the incident, but to cooperate with investigators.
And Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Central Dr. Andrew Wheatley said he knew the deceased for over 20 years and did not know him to be a violence producer.
