JLP rejects concerns raised by NIA & PNP over Dalrymple-Philibert candidacy in upcoming by-election

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has rejected concerns raised by the People’s National Party (PNP) and the National Integrity Action (NIA) regarding Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert’s expected candidacy in the upcoming south Trelawny by-election.

PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell yesterday questioned her selection as candidate while noting that the case which prompted the former Member of Parliament’s resignation is still before the court.

In a statement, the JLP described the PNP’s stance as barefaced hypocrisy.

JLP Deputy General Secretary Charles Sinclair said the JLP believes in the presumption of innocence which is a fundamental pillar of Jamaica’s legal system.

He added that among the PNP’s candidates, are persons who were cited by the Integrity Commission for breaches and also some who have had run-ins with the law, therefore the party should not be criticizing Dalrymple-Philibert.

He also criticized the NIA for its failure to comment on recent matters involving PNP Members of Parliament who breached the Integrity Commission Act.
