National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang is advocating for the development of model legislation and a regional migration policy, to bring structure to the movement of people across the region.
This amidst an increase in illegal migration in the Americas, in recent years.
Delivering the main address at the 26th Caricom standing committee of chiefs of immigration & comptrollers of customs, this morning, Dr. Chang attributed the increase, to the covid-19 pandemic and the harsh economic conditions that followed the partial shutdown of the global economy.
He said Jamaica has taken action in this regard, with the development of its national visa policy.
Dr. Chang also said a policy is needed to treat with involuntarily returned migrants (deportees).
