Jamaica’s agriculture sector saw four consecutive quarters of growth in 2022.
This, according to portfolio minister Pearnel Charles Junior.
He notes that for the first time in the country’s history, agricultural production surpassed 800,000 tonnes.
The previous record was 770,000 tonnes of produce in 2021.
St. Elizabeth, Trelawny and Manchester were the top producing parishes.
He was speaking at the launch of the 2023 Hague Agricultural and Livestock show.
The 66th staging of the event, will be hosted by the Trelawny association of branches society, under the theme: ‘Fostering Economic Growth, through Agricultural value chains.’
