167 people killed in motor vehicle crashes up to yesterday

Up to yesterday, May 27, 167 people had died on the nation’s roads.

That is according to the latest statistics from the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).

It said the primary factors contributing to these fatalities include speeding, failure to maintain proper traffic lanes, and pedestrians either walking onto or remaining in the roadway.

The data also indicate a 3% decrease in road fatalities compared to the similar period last year.

Nevertheless, the authority is emphasizing the continued need for vigilance among road users, urging them to exercise caution when navigating the roadways.

In the latest incident, a motorcyclist has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash along the Winston Jones highway in Manchester, Sunday night.

He is 24 year old Andre Forbes from Sommerset Road, in Greenvale Manchester.

Reports are that about 11:00 pm, a group of motorcyclists was traveling towards Mandeville when the motorcycle Forbes was aboard crashed into the back of a motor vehicle travelling in the same direction.

It’s reported that Forbes was thrown from the motorcycle and was run over by another motor vehicle.

Police were called to the scene and Forbes was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
