Zones of Special Operations extended in 7 communities despite concerns over their extended use
Amidst concern over the extended time frame that the enhanced security measure has been in place in some communities, Zones of Special Operations (ZOSOs) have been extended in seven communities across Jamaica.
The ZOSOs located in Mount Salem, Denham Town, August Town, Greenwich Town, Norwood, Parade Gardens, and Savanna-la-mar, will continue until June 23, next year.
The extension was approved in parliament this afternoon.
While noting that the opposition would support the motion, Opposition Leader Mark Golding noted that some of the zones have been in place for up to seven years.
He questioned when they would end.
Mr. Golding pointed out that there are other communities that would benefit from the interventions provided through the zones.
In response, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang noted that the government is looking to transition some of the communities, out of the ZOSOs.
