Young Sunshine Girls stay on course for 5th place finish at Netball World Youth Cup
Jamaica’s Under-21 netballers remain on track for a fifth-place finish at the ongoing Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar after battling to a hard-fought 57-47 win over the Cook Islands on Friday.
It was a fiercely contested encounter, with the teams locked 15-all at the end of the first quarter and 25-all at halftime. The young Sunshine Girls managed to carve out a slim 39-37 advantage heading into the final quarter, before pulling away decisively in the closing stages to secure victory.
The result sets up a clash tomorrow against Scotland, who booked their spot with a 46-42 win over Malawi.
Meanwhile, in the race for the title, defending champions New Zealand edged England 51-49 in a thrilling semi-final to secure their place in the final. They will be joined by Australia, who cruised to a commanding 67-36 win over South Africa in the other semi-final.
