Xavier Gilbert named Interim Reggae Girl’s head coach
Reggae girls World Cup assistant coach Xavier Gilbert will be the head coach when the Reggae Girls take on Panama and Guatemala in their upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup qualifying assignments later this month.
The announcement for the Interim position, was made this afternoon by the Jamaica Football Federation, who officially appointed the experienced former under 20 reggae girls and Excelsior high school coach following the departure of Lorne Donaldson on September 30.
Gilbert will be in charge for the October 25 game against Panama and again on October 29 against Guatemala at the National Stadium.
In the meantime a number of new overseas based players have been called up for the two games in the absence of a number of the players from the World Cup who haver indicated that they will not be available.
Captain and star striker Khadija bunny Shaw is among the players who will be unavailable along with World Cup goal-scorer Allyson Swaby.
The twins Mikayla dayes and Malikae Dayes are expected to return to the squad, after being named to the Reggae Girls FIFA Women’s World Cup squad, that had a training camp in Florida back in January.
A squad of players has been selected for the two games against Panama and Guatemala on October 25 and 29, respectively, and the names will be released in short order.
A full Technical support staff has also been put in place, but the names of those staff members have not been released.
