Workers at a Mammee Bay construction project in St.Ann call for wage increases and better working conditions
Workers at a construction project in Mammee Bay, St. Ann are voicing their frustration over what they describe as unfair wages and poor working conditions.
During a visit to the site this morning, a worker told IRIE FM News that they are being paid just $400 per hour, amounting to approximately $3,600 for a full day’s work.
According to the worker, shifts usually begin at 7:30 A.M., and end at 6:00 P.M.
The workers are calling for an increase in wages, better on-site structure and overall improved working conditions.
One of the main concerns raised is the lack of proper identification and job classification.
Workers argue that those with skilled labour experience should not be receiving the same pay as general labourers.
They believe they should be compensated according to their skill level and their contribution to the project.
