Women’s Caribbean Premier League heads to Guyana for 2025 edition
The 2025 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) will be staged in Guyana, with the fourth edition of the regional competition scheduled from September 6 to 17 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
This year’s tournament will feature three top teams battling for the crown: defending champions Barbados Royals, the host team Guyana Amazon Warriors, and the Trinbago Knight Riders. The teams will face off across six group-stage matches before the grand final on September 17.
All seven matches will be played at the same venue over an 11-day span, with the tournament bowling off on September 6 as the Trinbago Knight Riders take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The final league-stage match will be held on September 16, setting the stage for the final showdown just one day later.
Match timings have been scheduled mostly in the afternoon to maximize local engagement, with four games, including the final, starting at 2 PM, two fixtures beginning at 3 PM, and one later game at 4 PM.
The WCPL has rapidly grown in stature since its inception in 2022. The inaugural season took place in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis, while the last two editions in 2023 and 2024 were hosted at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
Barbados Royals have been the dominant force in the competition so far, finishing runners-up in 2022 before clinching back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. The Trinbago Knight Riders won the inaugural 2022 edition and were finalists in 2024. Meanwhile, Guyana Amazon Warriors have consistently been competitive, placing third in 2022 and 2024 and finishing runners-up in 2023.
One standout player across all editions is Barbados Royals’ Hayley Matthews, who holds the tournament records for the highest run-scorer (424 runs) and highest wicket-taker (23 wickets), underscoring her all-round impact on the competition.
