As the West Indies women continue their preparations and readiness for international assignments they went through drills and skills at a camp in Antigua, and the batting coach, Jamaican Robert Samuels said the players got a lot out the camp as they worked on “specifics” and he saw the progress being made.

Said Samuels, “This camp was about working on specifics. We have been working with the players on specific skills batting, bowling and fielding care targeting specific things. Basically for example, where you field, are you a point fielder, a boundary rider… we have done it in the past and we are trying to put people in the position and trying to get them to be the best that they can be in that position.” The former West Indies batsman added: “from what I’m seeing we are moving in the right direction. I thought we got a lot out of the camp, a lot more understanding, and the players appreciate the work that was done.”

The West Indies are set to host England in a home series later this year. Details of this series will be announced at a later date.

In the new year their first assignment will be the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. The eighth edition of the marquee event will begin on February 10 with hosts South Africa taking on Sri Lanka.

Cape Town, Paarl and Gqeberha will host the matches in the tournament with the knockout matches set to be played in Cape Town. The final will be held on 26 February 2023 with a reserve day available on the 27 February.

The 10 teams will be drawn in two groups as follows, Group 1: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh; with Group 2: England, India, West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland.
