West Indies will have to better their highest ever successful run chase at Sabina Park in order to defeat Bangladesh and win the second Test to sweep the ongoing two-match series.

The visitors, batting in their second innings, made a counter-attacking 193 for 5 at stumps on day three, for an overall lead of 211 with 5 wickets in hand, after earlier dismissing the Windies for 146 runs. This was only the second time in their history that Bangladesh took a first-innings lead after being bowled out for less than 200 runs.

Opener Shadman Islam was the top batsman on the day for the visiting team with 46 and shared in a vital 70-run third wicket stand with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz who made 42.

Jaker Ali (29) and Taijul Islam (9) were the batsmen at the crease when play concluded.

Meanwhile, Shamar Joseph – the most successful of the Windies bowlers – took 2 for 70. There was one apiece for the trio of Justin Greaves, Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph.

Earlier West Indies picking up from their overnight 70 for 1 were bundled out after only adding 76 runs to their total.

Captain Kraigg Brathwaite (39) and Keacy Carty (40) were the top scorers after pacer Nahid Rana took a career-best 5 for 61 to claim his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Scores: Bangladesh 164 and 193 for 5, West indies 146.

West Indies hold a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.
