West Indies Suffer Blow Ahead of Must-Win Clash Against Pakistan in Florida
The West Indies’ hopes of leveling their three-match T20 International series against Pakistan have taken a significant hit, with former captain Rovman Powell ruled out of the remaining two games due to a wrist injury.
Powell sustained the injury while attempting a catch during the fourth match of the recent five-game T20I series against Australia in St. Kitts. As a result, he was sidelined for the 14-run defeat to Pakistan in the series opener on Thursday and will miss the remainder of the series in Fort Lauderdale.
The West Indies will not be naming a replacement for Powell. Earlier this week, the selectors had already bolstered the squad by drafting in Shamar Joseph, Keacy Carty, and Alick Athanaze as replacements for Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Brandon King, and Shimron Hetmyer, who were all ruled out of the series for varying reasons.
Tonight’s second T20I is scheduled to bowl off at 7:00 PM Jamaica time at the Central Broward Regional Park, with the home side needing a victory to keep the series alive.
The series finale is set for August 4, after which both teams will shift focus to a three-match One Day International (ODI) series in Tarouba, Trinidad, starting on August 8.
